Does it Get Worse with Aging?
Are you tired of feeling increasing pain each day? As we get older, we seem to feel more pain—but why’s that? We will discuss pain, how pain and age correlate, and how Gem State Holistic Health can help you with your pain.
What is Pain?
Pain is an unpleasant sensation that signals that something is wrong. It can be described as persistent, throbbing, stabbing, aching, pinching, or a range of various ways. Pain can be a minor annoyance, such as a mild headache. It can also be debilitating at times.
Other physical symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, weakness, or drowsiness, can occur as a result of pain. Anger, frustration, mood changes, and hostility are some of the emotional side effects. Most importantly, it has the potential to alter your lifestyle and have a negative impact on your career, relationships, and independence.
Previously, in our last article and newsletter, we talked about two kinds of pain: acute (temporary) and chronic (consistent).
What Does Pain Have to Do With Age?
As we get older, our bodies continue to change. Things like hormone levels, overall toxicity from our environment, poor nutrition, and stress all compound to weaken our systems. When our systems are weakened, this allows injury to happen more easily, thus inhibiting our ability to heal correctly. This generally results in an acute injury, transitioning to chronic pain.
At Gem State Holistic Health, we see pain as a paradigm of problems that accumulate and increase as we age. If pain is left untreated, it can lead to the pain worsening or the development of other types of pain. Then this pain accumulates over time.
For example, instead of having one bad knee for a couple of years, you may now have two bad knees and weakened ankle strength.
For this reason, it is crucial to have a doctor evaluate the pain and help determine a plan of action for treating your pain.
How Do Our Doctors Evaluate Pain?
Your visit will usually begin with a consultation and examination. During the exam, we will look not only at the actual injury or area of pain, but we will evaluate things like:
- Age
- General condition
- Hormones
- Toxicity
- Diet
- Mental balance
There are eight primary areas we focus on in the clinic to evaluate pain. In our next newsletter, we will look more closely at some of these categories and how they play into the Pain Paradigm.
